Active Power Filter Pre-Selection Tool to Enhance the Power Quality in Oil and Gas Platforms

This paper proposes a preliminary design tool for active power filters’ (APFs) solutions to be applied in offshore oil and gas platforms, where quality indices are typically low, reactive compensation current harmonic mitigation often desired. The proposed approach considers that APF selection rating is trade-off between performance size, both component system aspects need optimized achieve well-tailored solution. As size weight critical constraints applications, possible benefits of using Silicon Carbide (SiC) switches the implementation investigated. Moreover, different strategies compared, varying connection point two voltage levels assigning APFs goals. Improvements indices, as well rating, number components, losses, filter have been considered SiC Silicon-based identify best trade-offs suitable considered, energy intensive industrial application.
